Personalisation Paradox

I still marvel at how well AI is able to tailor things to our (my?) individual needs. Sometimes it still takes a few tries to get it right, but it's getting easier all the time.
Imagine strolling through a village or around a mall where every shopkeeper knows your preferences. On one hand, it'd be convenient; on the other, it's a little unnerving. Like when I walk into a restaurant and the cheeky (experienced!) maitre d' tells me what I'm going to order. I love it — and they're usually right! AI can offer that on a global scale. The question is, how much should it know?
How much do we want to think for ourselves?
