For more than a decade, I’ve been wondering why life seems to speed up as we get older.
Why one year at 10 felt enormous, and one year at 40 can disappear in a blur.
The question stayed with me long enough that eventually I had to write a book about it, as a way to explore and explain it.
It’s called Thickening Time.
I wrote it because I kept having the same unsettling feeling a lot of people have: the years were speeding up, and I couldn’t fully account for where they were going.
So I went looking for answers. I read into the neuroscience of time perception, memory, attention, novelty, routine, and why some periods of life feel full while others seem to vanish.
The result is a book about why time feels like it’s shrinking, and what we can actually do about it.
If you’ve ever looked up and wondered where the last few years went, this book is for you.
The whole book is free to read online, because I wanted it to be easy for people to get into. There’s also a paid and personalised version if you want your own copy.
